Since 1990, I have been a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, NCTM. Since 1995, I have also been a member of the South Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics, SCCTM.
In the Fall 1999 semester, I took a class concerning using Technology in Education. We had to do a web page using the Netscape Composer. I did my page with a Clemson Tigers theme - you might enjoy visiting my EdL 795 page.
This page MATHS POSTERS IN THE LONDON UNDERGROUND looked interesting from the year 2000. There was a poster promoting math each month.
We have two cats:
Tommie - my father found Tommie in his back yard in Miami in 1994. The vet estimated that she was 4 weeks old at most when she was found. We intended to make her an outside cat but the long hair made her too pretty to keep outside. Her declared birthday is May 1, 1994. Tigger - our newest - we found trying to survive in our back yard in early August 2004. The vet estimates he was about 11 weeks old. We could not resist another little Clemson tiger. His declared birthday is May 27, 2004. Ginger - my first pet - passed away in 2007. She was from the Humane Society in Walhalla, SC. Ginger was born in 1991 and adopted in Feb 1992, so was the ruler of the house as the oldest cat. Though not particularly found of other cats she liked people. Her declared birthday was June 9, 1991. Our golden retrievers passed away: Jeff Jan 9, 2003 and Ginny Oct 5, 2003. Jeff was 13 and Ginny was 11. Both died of tumors. Jeff was also a rescued case - we got him from a Golden Retriever society in Miami that rescued him from a pound. They believe he was lost in Hurricane Andrew. He was terrified of thunderstorms. I am a member of Pickens Presbyterian Church and I'm in the choir too. The church is located at 311 W. Main Street, Pickens, SC. I also am accompanist/assistant choir director for our Sunday Night Live Children's Choirs.
Cross Stitch is my favorite hobby, when I have the time.
Taking our daughter to the Greenville Zoo, we soon learned about the benefits of a Zoo membership. Free admission for a year for the immediate family, plus a few passes for friends or extended family members. Reciprocal agreements between zoos grant members free admission into hundreds of zoos nationwide, including the Miami Metro Zoo, and Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Garden, Columbia, SC.
My favorite magazine is Good Housekeeping.
We have had three cars from Saturn. But now we have a Honda Odyssey -- loved by us and the kids.
We used to live near Table Rock State Park and Aunt Sue's Country Corner.
My husband is Robert Simms.
I am a 1986 graduate of Florida Christian School in Miami, FL.
I am a 1990 graduate of Bob Jones University. I earned a Bachelor of Science from the School of Education with a major in Secondary Mathematics and a double minor in Physics and English.
I went back to Florida Christian the year after I graduated. I taught high school math and physics and was also the yearbook advisor.
I am a 1993 graduate of Clemson University. I earned a Master of Science from the College of Sciences with a major in Mathematics. My area of concentration was Discrete Mathematics. My master's project was on Maximum Distance Separable Codes. Dr. Jennifer Key was my advisor. So, of course, I am a Clemson Alumnus.
