His was held on Friday, March 12th, 2021, and can now be found on our youtube channel and on the webinar page of our website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Seminar Title<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-luminous-vivid-orange-color\">Do Mobility as a Service Systems&nbsp;Make Cities Smarter? \u2013 Evidence from Large Scale Trajectory Data&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Seminar Abstract<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>There has been a recent paradigm shift in the smart mobility landscape with the advent of technology-based shared mobility solutions (e.g. Uber, Didi, Grab, and other ridesharing services) to relieve congestion and improve sustainability. While these technologies claim many benefits, their impact on cities is mixed. A nuanced understanding of the impacts of these MaaS systems is urgently required for making investments in future transport systems. In this talk, I will discuss three related topics. Using big data from the real world: (1) I will discuss and quantify the inequalities and externalities these technologies impose on cities; (2) I will discuss the effect of various regulatory policies to make MaaS systems more equitable; and (3) I will discuss the impacts of COVID-19 on transportation ridership and how to safely reopen them. If time permits, I will discuss emerging trends in: (i) first and last-mile logistics delivery and (ii) the impacts of autonomous electrified transportation in urban hubs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Speaker Bio<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Satish V. Ukkusuri is a Professor in the Lyles School of Civil Engineering at Purdue University and Director of the Urban Mobility Networks and Intelligence (UMNI) Lab. His research is in the area of interdisciplinary transportation networks with current interests in data-driven mobility solutions, disaster management, the resilience of interdependent networks, connected and autonomous traffic systems, shared mobility platforms, and smart logistics. He is a University Faculty Scholar (2017-present), Fulbright Fellow (2015-16), Discovery Park Fellow (2013-15), a selectee of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) JAFOE conference (2016), a selectee of the National Academy of Science (NAS) Arab American Frontiers of Science, Engineering and Medicine in 2017 and a CUTC\/ARTBA Faculty Award (2011) among other awards. He has published more than 320 peer reviewed journal and conference articles.
