Corporate Sponsorships & Funding

The CEDAR group has been (is) supported by many past (present) sponsors.  The funding from these sponsors is used primarily to support graduate students through stipends and tuition waivers.  We thank these sponsors for their support and we look forward to new partnerships with others.  If you are interested in sponsoring a research or a design project, please contact the faculty directly.  A presentation on collaboration opportunities is provided:  2016-05-24-CEDAR-Industry-Collaboration-Opportunities

Project Sponsors

BMW
Sponsor
BMW has sponsored many different projects, past and present. These range from requirements modeling to assembly quality defect prediction; from lazy parts to configuration management; from headliner installation to assembly process formalization. The work has been supervised by Fadel, Kurz, Mocko, and Summers.
NSF
Sponsor
The National Science Foundation (NSF) has funded many past and current projects through CEDAR. These include augmented lagrangian networking to requirements modeling; from function reasoning to mechanical modeling language; from workshops to conferences. The work has been supervised by Fadel, Mocko, Summers, and Turner.
FreightFarms
Sponsor
FreightFarms is collaborating with a CEDAR team through a NASA STTR project focused on measuring, modeling, and improving energy and material flow in the mobile farming system. The project is supervised by Summers, Turner, and Wagner.
TTi
Sponsor
TTi has sponsored projects at the capstone and graduate research levels, in addition to sponsoring some Creative Inquiry teams and the Advanced Concepts Lab/EIB 135/CEDAR makerspace. The research projects have focused on product improvements.
IFAI
Sponsor
IFAI (Industrial Fabrics Association International) has sponsored projects with the CEDAR group that included developing ballasting guidelines for different ballast and surface conditions, creating web support tools for such guidelines, and developing meta-models of loading conditions for different tent configurations. The work has been supervised by Summers.
ProNova
Sponsor
ProNova, a proton therapy systems development company, has sponsored projects with the CEDAR group that included designing new systems for calibration of their large scale gantries. Summers was the project coordinator.
ARC
Sponsor
The Automotive Research Center (ARC) has been supporting CEDAR projects for many years. Fadel is the Clemson liaison and representative to the advisory committee. Some examples of the research funded by ARC includes underhood packaging, verification/validation test planning, sand traction, and meta-materials for tank tread design. Fadel and Summers have supervised projects from the ARC.
Johnson Controls (JCI)
Sponsor
Johnson Controls has sponsored research projects within CEDAR that included developing advanced concepts for automotive seating and design methods to support these. Mocko and Summers have led projects sponsored by Johnson Controls.
NASA
Sponsor
NASA has supported CEDAR research that focused on meta-material design, soft soil traction, and lunar non-pneumatic tire development. Fadel and Summers have supervised this research.
Michelin
Sponsor
Michelin has sponsored research in CEDAR that has included CAD search query tool development, experimental equipment design, meta-material design, and low rolling resistance of non-pneumatic tires. Fadel and Summers have supervised this research.
JPL
Sponsor
The Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) has sponsored research within CEDAR including the development of non-pneumatic tires for the ATHLETE system, designing cryogenic road wheel testing systems, and graduate student and faculty internships. Summers has led these research projects.
Hartness International
Sponsor
Hartness International has sponsored research in CEDAR that included the development of systematic methods for knowledge capture and encoding this knowledge as automated design guidelines. Mocko and Summers supervised these projects.
WMP
Sponsor
Write Metal Products (WMP) sponsored a project where CEDAR researchers developed a computational analysis tool for fast and guided crate design. Summers led this research project.
GM
Sponsor
General Motors has sponsored projects within CEDAR that include packaging and optimization. Fadel and Summers have supervised these projects.
