Chris Mabey is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. His research lies at the intersection of engineering design, computational sociotechnical modeling, and sustainability.

Chris Mabey is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. His research lies at the intersection of engineering design, computational sociotechnical modeling, and sustainability. He completed his PhD at Brigham Young University working with Dr. Chris Mattsion. Chris has experience across a number of industries and professional roles including professional photography with his work being featured by brands like The North Face and the BBC. He co-founded a company designing lightweight photography equipment that generated over $100k in revenue in its first year. Before returning to engineering research, Chris also worked in the bike industry from 2016-2018 as a project and marketing manager, leading to one of the most successful product launches in the company’s history. His passion for the engineering design process led him to teach product development at Brigham Young University for five years, and serve as the editor-in-chief of the BYU Design Review for two years. Chris also served as a Senior Research Fellow with Engineering for Change, working on ASME’s climate action strategies.
