Degree<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cecas.clemson.edu\/cegradinfo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Shehzad.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-363\" src=\"https:\/\/cecas.clemson.edu\/cegradinfo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Shehzad-300x198.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"531\" height=\"351\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cecas.clemson.edu\/cegradinfo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Shehzad-300x198.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cecas.clemson.edu\/cegradinfo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Shehzad.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 531px) 100vw, 531px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Students pursuing an M.S. degree in Civil Engineering are accepted into one of six major program areas, and will follow the requirements specific to that area:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clemson.edu\/cecas\/departments\/ce\/research\/ce-m\/index.html\">Construction Engineering and Management<br \/>\n<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clemson.edu\/cecas\/departments\/ce\/research\/cm\/index.html\">Construction Materials<br \/>\n<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clemson.edu\/cecas\/departments\/ce\/research\/geotechnical\/index.html\">Geotechnical Engineering<br \/>\n<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clemson.edu\/cecas\/departments\/ce\/research\/structural\/index.html\">Structural Engineering<br \/>\n<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clemson.edu\/cecas\/departments\/ce\/research\/water-resources\/index.html\">Transportation Systems<br \/>\nWater Resources Engineering<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Department offers two pathways leading to the M.S. degree: a research-based thesis option, or a coursework-only option.\u00a0 Following are requirements for each:<\/p>\n<p><em>Masters of Science, Thesis Option<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Total of 30 credit hours\n<ul>\n<li>Minimum of 24 credits approved graduate coursework<\/li>\n<li>Minimum of 6 credits of M.S. Thesis Research (CE 8910)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>At least 12 of the 24 credits must be 8000-level courses<\/li>\n<li>Research thesis will be submitted and defended during the final semester.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Masters of Science, Non-Thesis Option<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Total of 30 credit hours approved graduate coursework<\/li>\n<li>At least 15 of the 30 credits must be 8000-level courses<\/li>\n<li>Comprehensive exam or project may be given during the final semester. Consult with faculty advisor for more information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6>Graduate Advisory Committee and Plan of Study<\/h6>\n<p>M.S. students are required to select an advisory committee consisting of a faculty advisor and at least two committee members.\u00a0 After the first semester in the program, students are expected to submit their official Committee Selection and Plan of Study (accessed in iRoar) to the Graduate School.\u00a0 Consult with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clemson.edu\/cecas\/departments\/ce\/pdf\/Graduate\/Online%20Manual%20F%2017.pdf\">CE Graduate Student Handbook\u00a0<\/a>and the\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clemson.edu\/graduate\/files\/pdfs\/PolicyHandbook_2017-18.pdf\">Graduate School Policies and Procedures Handbook<\/a> for more information about the makeup of the committee.\u00a0 A student&#8217;s Plan of Study includes all courses that will be used to satisfy the requirements for the M.S. degree.\u00a0 An approved Committee Selection and Plan of Study must be on file with Graduate Enrolled Student Services before a student will be allowed to apply for graduation.<\/p>\n<h6>Checklists for Completing the M.S. Degree<\/h6>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>It is the responsibility of the student to be aware of and complete all CE Department and Graduate School requirements for the M.S. degree.\u00a0 Students graduating should refer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clemson.edu\/graduate\/students\/deadlines.html\">deadlines<\/a> listed on the Graduate School website.\u00a0 Following are general checklists for students pursuing a Masters degree in Civil\u00a0 Engineering:<\/p>\n<p><em>Masters Degree, Thesis option<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>New students \u2013 attend all appropriate orientation sessions;<\/li>\n<li>Submission of GS2a \u2013 Graduate Advisory Committee Selection (end of first semester);<\/li>\n<li>Submission of GS2b \u2013 Plan of Study (end of first semester);<\/li>\n<li>Apply for graduation via iRoar at the beginning of the final semester;<\/li>\n<li>Consult with Graduate Advisory Committee to schedule the thesis defense date;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clemson.edu\/graduate\/calendar\/defense-form.html\">Notify Graduate School of defense date<\/a> at least ten days prior to the defense;<\/li>\n<li>Final defense of thesis;<\/li>\n<li>Submit signed GS7M \u2013 Final Exam and Thesis Approval Form to Graduate Enrolled Student Services in 104-D Sikes Hall (provide a copy of signed form to Kristi Baker);<\/li>\n<li>Submit completed thesis with all committee-recommended revisions to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clemson.edu\/graduate\/students\/theses-and-dissertations\/index.html\">Manuscript Review Office<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>Make any required formatting revisions and resubmit thesis to the Manuscript Review Offices.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>Masters Degree, Non-Thesis option<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><em>\u00a0<\/em>New students \u2013 attend all appropriate orientation sessions;<\/li>\n<li>Submission of GS2a \u2013 Graduate Advisory Committee Selection (end of first semester);<\/li>\n<li>Submission of GS2b \u2013 Plan of Study (end of first semester);<\/li>\n<li>Apply for graduation via iRoar at the beginning of the final semester;<\/li>\n<li>Consult with advisory committee to schedule final exam;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clemson.edu\/graduate\/calendar\/defense-form.html\">Notify Graduate School of exam date<\/a> at least ten days prior to the exam;<\/li>\n<li>Take final exam;<\/li>\n<li>Submit signed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clemson.edu\/graduate\/files\/pdfs\/GS7M.pdf\">GS7M<\/a> \u2013 Final Exam and Thesis Approval Form to Graduate Enrolled Student Services in 104-D Sikes Hall (provide a copy of signed form to Kristi Baker).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Masters of Science (M.S.)
