RESEARCH INITIATIVES

Below are a few projects we are currently focusing on:

Ceramic Waste Forms for Nuclear Energy: Design of hierarchical materials that incorporate a wide range of radionuclides to broaden the available disposal options and to lower the storage and disposal costs associated with advanced nuclear fuel cycles.
Solid State Ionics for Energy Conversion and Storage : Development of new materials where the transport of ions play an essential role including solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), solid-state Li-ion batteries, membrane separations and fuels synthesis

Experimental Thermodynamics : Thermodynamic measurements such as calorimetry, provide a direct measure of the energetics of defect formation reactions as well as the formation energies of the resulting structures. This information is essential for the rational design of materials and prediction of their long-term performance and stability.
