Automotive EMC Questions

1. What EMC Standards apply to automotive designs?

There are a number of automotive EMC standards covering everything from emissions and susceptibility testing of integrated circuits to full-vehicle tests. There are also standards covering related topics such as ground post impedance, wire harness configurations, and wireless communications in and between automobiles.

Unfortunately different automotive manufacturers require compliance to different standards and many have their own proprietary procedures and requirements. SAE (the Society of Automotive Engineers) and ISO (International Standards Organization) are the two most prolific sources of automotive standards. Their EMC standards are listed in the link below along with "standards" imposed by the major automotive companies. If you are aware of any EMC-related standards that are not on this list please let us know about them.
