Chatting with my family that night I learned that by coincidence my six-year-old son, Isaac, had been making a matrix of his own.

Isaac loves doing “Sodor Missions” with his Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends toys. These usually involve some train getting stuck and needing a rescue. Isaac created his own matrix to show all the missions he wanted to complete; the rescuer is in the rows and the train being rescued is in the columns. So it looks like Isaac has the conceptual organization skills needed to come work in the lab!

Matrix of Isaac’s Sodor Missions.

In group meeting on Friday we briefly discussed making and following experimental matrices to keep our lab work well organized.
