{"id":770,"date":"2015-08-17T23:21:58","date_gmt":"2015-08-18T03:21:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cecas.clemson.edu\/ladnergroup\/?p=770"},"modified":"2015-08-17T23:21:58","modified_gmt":"2015-08-18T03:21:58","slug":"pamam-dendrimer-interligand-interactions-paper-published","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cecas.clemson.edu\/ladnergroup\/blog\/pamam-dendrimer-interligand-interactions-paper-published\/","title":{"rendered":"PAMAM Dendrimer Interligand Interactions Paper Published"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bo Wang&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dx.doi.org\/10.1021\/acs.jpcc.5b04991\" target=\"_blank\">paper on dendritic polymers for\u00a0oil spill dispersion<\/a> was just published in <em>The Journal of Physical Chemistry C<\/em>. \u00a0This is the latest in our ongoing work in the oil spill dispersion field, <a href=\"http:\/\/cfpub.epa.gov\/ncer_abstracts\/index.cfm\/fuseaction\/display.abstractDetail\/abstract\/9694\/report\/0\" target=\"_blank\">funded by the EPA<\/a>.\u00a0Bo is a graduate student in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clemson.edu\/ces\/physics-astro\/\" target=\"_blank\">Department of Physics and Astronomy<\/a> at Clemson, working with <a href=\"http:\/\/dlab.clemson.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Feng Ding<\/a>. Other collaborators on this paper are\u00a0Nick Geitner, Thomas\u00a0Davis, Pu Chun Ke, and David \u00a0Ladner.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">The main finding of this work\u00a0is that dendritic polymers &#8212; poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers, in this case &#8212; have a couple different ways of dispersing oil. One mechanism that is often discussed in the literature occurs when a few oil molecules are encapsulated by a single polymer molecule. This is the &#8220;u<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">nimolecular micelle&#8221; mechanism. But we have observed in our experiments that much more oil is dispersed than can be accounted for by encapsulation alone. Bo ran computer simulations that included many oil molecules and a few polymer molecules.
