The new year is off to a great start!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sustain SC is full speed ahead in 2023. There are a lot of exciting things in the works. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to and some upcoming events to put on your radar.   <\/p>\n\n\n

Sustainability Member Network Meeting<\/strong>
We kicked off our first meeting of the year with representatives from Sustainability Member Network organizations at Atlantic Packaging in Charlotte. Atlantic Packaging is a $1B company with over 2,000 employees and is the world’s largest converter of paperboard. We learned all about the company\u2019s innovative sustainable packaging initiatives that are making a huge global impact. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ingevity at the Forefront of Sustainability<\/strong>
Ingevity was recently recognized on Newsweek Magazine\u2019s list of America\u2019s Most Responsible Companies 2023. Matt Redmann, Director of Sustainability at Ingevity, shares his thoughts on the huge accomplishment and the company’s path forward in our latest Insights<\/a> article.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

SLI on the Road<\/strong>
Members of our Sustainability Leadership Initiative (SLI) travel all over the state for special site visits. These trips provide a unique opportunity for SLI Fellows to learn about company best practices, processes and plans, and hear from sustainability professionals firsthand. 
January 19 – South Carolina Ports Authority<\/strong>
 SLI Fellows learned about dredging and bird species from Mark Messersmith of the South Carolina Ports Authority and Nolan Schillerstrom of National Audubon Society SC. The dredging project not only played a huge role in the deepening of the Charleston Harbor, but it also helps maintain healthy bird habitats. Perfect example of commerce meets conservation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

January 20 – Boeing South Carolina<\/strong>
 Boeing invited SLI members for a tour of its plant in North Charleston, including the 787 assembly line. They learned all about Boeing\u2019s sustainability efforts and what\u2019s in store for the future of sustainable aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

February 9 – BMW <\/strong>
 The SLI class met up at BMW Manufacturing Co., LLC in Spartanburg. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn all about BMW\u2019s sustainability goals and see those plans in action. The Spartanburg campus is unique, it\u2019s a zero waste to landfill facility with 40% of the plant\u2019s total energy powered by methane gas, reducing CO2 emissions by 92,000 tons per year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
