A handful of spray painters are required to comply with EPA’s 6H requirements. However, all businesses that spray paint and all technical assistance providers that work with such businesses would benefit from the upcoming Spray Paint Efficiency training. Joe Bolick, Ken Grimm, and Katy Wolf have been addressing this issue for decades and will be available to answer any questions that you have on this important opportunity to prevent pollution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joe Bolick provides leadership and direction for the Iowa Waste Reduction Center (IWRC) and oversees the public relations and communications activities. Joe graduated from UNI in 2004 with a degree in marketing and has been involved with the center since his time as a student. Since then, he has taken on different roles and responsibilities including developing formal painter-training courses for the US Air Force, developing a virtual-reality simulator used to train painters, hosting two Midwest Food Recovery Summits, handling the marketing and communications for the organization, producing a cooking competition featuring culinary students using food scraps and ingredients, and launching and growing the Iowa Green Brewery Certification program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ken Grimm, Pollution Prevention Resource Center (PPRC) Industry Outreach Manager, has completed the IWRC’s Train-the-Trainer course in addition to his nearly 20 years of industrial and automotive paint experience. During that time Ken worked as a lead painter, paint shop manager, EHS manager, and facility trainer. He has provided train-the-trainer courses to more than two dozen Community and Technical Colleges in the Pacific Northwest, as well as training to more than 250 collision repair shops and industrial facilities across the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Katy Wolf is a consultant on solvent alternatives. She was previously the director of the Institute for Research and Technical Assistance (IRTA), a nonprofit organization established in 1989. IRTA’s work involved finding safer low VOC, low toxicity alternatives and focused heavily on solvent alternatives in cleaning, dry cleaning, electronics, paint stripping, coatings, lubricants, paint thinners, and adhesives. Dr. Wolf spent fourteen years at the Rand Corporation where she performed research on alternatives to ozone depleting substances and chlorinated solvents. Dr. Wolf has authored more than 200 publications and has a Ph.D. in Chemical Physics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
