The 2008 Murray Stokley Award was given to Dr. Nader Jalili, Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering. He has taught a range of undergraduate and graduate courses since arriving at Clemson in 2000. Students always comment very favorably on his knowledge of the material, his interesting lectures and his excellent rapport with students. He has served as major advisor to 5 students who have received national best paper awards and currently advises 5 PhD students and 6 Masters students. The past year has been very noteworthy for Dr. Jalili. He has developed three new graduate courses and was named the recipient of the 2007 Faculty Award for Commitment to Excellence and Success of Clemson University graduate students. He was also named the recipient of the 2007 Eugene H. Bishop Award for Excellence in Teaching, the highest teaching award given to Mechanical Engineering faculty, and the 2007 Ken Roby Advising Award of Excellence in Undergraduate Advising. The number of support letters from current and previous students were too great to be added in the remarks, however one did stand out. One student wrote, “To be a truly great professor one must possess the desire to teach, the enthusiasm to work with open-minded young people, the selflessness to devote countless out-of-class hours to the betterment of the student, while at the same time inspiring and challenging the students to learn. Dr. Jalili is the rare type of professor that possesses all of these traits and then some.”
