THINKER Special Project Teams Give Final Presentations

On April 29, 2022, the two THINKER project teams gave presentations to Clemson and Greenville Technical College leaders. These presentations included lab demonstrations of the final project prototypes and one team also presented to industry partner, Magna. This was the culmination of a year-long collaborative effort between Clemson and Greenville Technical College students, including graduate students from multiple disciplines across Clemson.

THINKER External Advisory Board Luncheon

On April 22, 2022, THINKER students (including the Greenville Technical College participants) and the THINKER External Advisory Board members came together for a “Getting to Know You” luncheon at One Research Drive, 4th floor atrium. This marked the first time in two years that the two groups had a chance to interact in person. Board members in attendance were Jay Blankenship, Andy Henderson, Art Gay, Philip Kingsbury, and Kurt Goodwin, while Suzanne Kunz and Ben Amaba joined by Zoom.

THINKER Tour of Campbell Center Labs

The Spring 2022 THINKER cohort, including both Clemson University and Greenville Tech students, toured the Campbell Center labs on Friday, February 18, 2022. This tour included visiting both ORD and Deep Orange facilities.

THINKER Capstone Course Students Present Projects

The Spring 2021 THINKER Capstone course students presented their final project demonstrations in April 2021 to faculty and staff at Clemson University, Greenville Technical College, and Bosch Rexroth Corporation. The project teams, made up of graduate students from Clemson University and senior mechatronics students from Greenville Technical College’s Center for Manufacturing Innovation campus, worked together to solve current and future manufacturing problems. This semester’s topics included partially automating a small part kitting and bagging line to include a collaborative robot assisting workers in their tasks and machine health monitoring and diagnosis for legacy equipment and infrastructure. The class was based in the Clemson Vehicle Assembly Center, which serves as a proving ground for innovative manufacturing research in SC.

Work Continues on Spring 2020 THINKER Projects

THINKER students are continuing work on two projects this semester: one focusing on an IoT implementation, and another developing sensors for verifying component connections in automotive assembly. Students in the THINKER program have the ability to collaborate with Clemson’s Center for Advanced Manufacturing and the Center for Manufacturing Innovation at Greenville Technical College.
