Gravel is typically treated as compact debris which implies that its flight will be two-dimensional. However, gravel is irregularly shaped which can lead to lift forces and rotational moments. We are developing a stochastic model for this flight. We have also recently completed full scale gravel removal tests at the FIU Wall of Wind. This data will be used to develop a particle scale motion initiation model for roof gravel blow-off.

A variety of windborne debris flight studies have been completed including: Aggregate removal from rooftops (Karimpour & Kaye 2012, Karimpour & Kaye 2013). Flight modeling of compact debris (Karimpour & Kaye 2012, Kaye 2015) Rod like debris flight.
