Dr. Pataky’s research group focuses on understanding material behavior and the fracture mechanics of materials utilizing multiscale experiments. The aim is to link meso and continuum scales and further the movement towards physics-based modeling. Connecting high resolution digital image correlation experiments, consisting of microstructural information and grain-level strain fields, to continuum level deformation measurements, failure mechanisms at the component level can be connected to dislocation level phenomena. In order to achieve this, tools and experimental techniques utilizing the latest advances in technology must be developed.
