What are the Internet Technologies?

A fast overview of where we are today and how we got here.

In the beginning (~1972) there were:

Email
Email enables people to send messages to each other.
It's as fast as a phone call, but you don't have to play phone tag.
It's not always easy to find someone's address, and do they read their email?

File Transfer
Enables a person to copy a file from one machine to another.
Initially required permissions, knowledge of the file address, and a cumbersome interface.

Remote Login
Enables a person to log onto another machine and run a program.
Required a userid and knowledge of how to talk to the remote computer.
