ME 3060 Fundamentals of Machine Design
Course Description: Introduction to failure theory, fatigue analysis, and energy methods for deflection analysis. Integration of these topics with selected portions of the mechanics of materials and their application to the design and analysis of machine elements.
The primary objectives of this course are to develop in the student:
- The ability to analyze modes of failure under varying conditions,
- The ability to identify design variables which contribute to component failure, and
- The ability to demonstrate sound, rational approaches to the solution of engineering problems
Textbook (required): R. G. Budynas & J. K. Nisbett, Shigley’s Mechanical Engineering Design
