Welcome to the Laboratory of Advanced Biofabrication
The laboratory of advanced biofabrication has research activities focused in cancer biomechanics and cell/drug screening. The long term goal is to develop a cancer screening platform that better resembles the physiology of naturally occurring tumors. Current drug discovery screening platforms have limited throughput and high volume reagents usage; thus a need for miniaturization and ultra-high throughput exist.
Our work has focused on assessing the biomechanical properties of three-dimensional (3D) breast cancer microtissues via atomic force microscopy (AFM). This approach can help us to understand the role of the mechanical properties of cancer cells on their metastatic behavior and in the creation of more relevant screening platforms in support of a more personalized and predictive chemotherapy.
