ECHO Lab Participates in Virtual STEM Summer Camp 2021

Dr. Jackie Cha and Alec Gonzales introduce summer campers to the world of Industrial Engineering!

Dr. Jackie Cha and Alec Gonzales took part in the Clemson University Student Outreach Center’s 2021 Virtual STEM Summer Camp. Here they worked with children, ages 8-12, to get campers excited about Industrial Engineering and present Clemson University’s Industrial Engineering department as a promising place to pursue this field in the future. The two engaged with the campers by introducing Industrial Engineering and its fundamental place in engineering and society to the students, and then followed up with a hands-on activity where the students were tasked with designing and creating different paper boxes to accomplish different goals.

Dr. Jackie Cha explains the prevalence of Industrial Engineering across a multitude of disciplines and industries.
Dr. Jackie Cha and Alec Gonzales work with campers to construct a paper container that can hold the largest amount of pencils and popsicle sticks, demonstrating industrial engineering considerations in the development process.
