First Product Categories for Expansion of Ecolabel Recommendations for Federal Purchasing Announced
EPA has announced the first five product and service categories chosen for the expansion of the Recommendations of Specifications, Standards and Ecolabels for Federal Purchasing (Recommendations) which help federal government purchasers identify private sector standards and ecolabels to meet sustainable acquisition goals and mandates. This action supports the broader effort EPA announced last year to expand the Recommendations by assessing additional standards and ecolabels. Later this year, EPA anticipates announcing the standards and ecolabels that pass the assessment and will be included in the Recommendations. EPA plans to consider additional product and service categories as resources allow. |
EPA Seeks Input on Potential Expansion of the Safer Choice and Design for the Environment Programs
On July 25, EPA announced a 45-day public comment period on a proposed expansion of its Safer Choice and potentially its Design for the Environment (DfE) programs to include certification of additional product categories beyond cleaners and disinfectants. EPA will hold a listening session webinar on August 29 to gather feedback on certification of additional product categories by EPA’s Safer Choice and DfE programs. |
P2 is Hot! Grantee Louisiana State University Helps Pepper Company Reduce Waste
Who sprinkles pepper in P2? Louisiana Pepper Exchange does! The company provides pepper mash, pepper purees and pepper powder to kitchens, co-packers and sauce makers. Looking for opportunities to reduce or eliminate waste, the company provided a tour to EPA and grantee Louisiana State University, with their partners LifeCity and Southern University. The grantees provided the company with a P2 technical assessment that identifies sources of pollution and economical and practical options for reducing or eliminating the generation of waste.
From the P2 Community: Alternatives to Vapor Degreasing Webinar
On August 9, 2023, from 3 to 4 p.m., The Metropolitan Environmental Training Alliance (METRA) will host a webinar, in collaboration with the Pacific Northwest Pollution Prevention Resource Center, to share P2 case studies on alternatives to vapor degreasing and provide information on regulations for toxic halogenated solvents.
