Steering Committee Partners

Clemson University

  • Clemson University has held a commitment to sustainability since its founding and realizes that sustainable practices are becoming increasingly important. Educating future leaders in sustainability is vital, which is why it is fitting that Clemson be involved in E3. Their goals for this project include being the driving force to bring together many resources in the state that can help manufacturers increase and improve the use of sustainable practices as well as incorporating student involvement to give future leaders valuable experience in lean, green, and energy efficiency areas.

Duke Energy

  • Duke Energy encourages its customers to be partners in environmental and energy stewardship. Duke Energy does this by helping their customers to improve their energy and environmental performance and operate efficiently. Duke Energy’s goals for this program are: to improve energy efficiency among manufacturing clients in South Carolina; to be a good corporate citizen; to market the E3 program to its clients and other stakeholders; to target/identify clients for E3 participation; and provide resources to support client assessments. This program is one of a series of initiatives to help Duke Energy reduce demand for electricity.

South Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership (SC MEP)

  • SCMEP’s goals are to spur lean manufacturing while improving energy efficiencies and waste reduction among the selected manufacturers/facilities. MEP’s goal is, generally, to achieve a 20% cost savings as a result of manufacturers implementing recommendations from a lean and clean assessment. In the case of this program, MEP will await the results of the initial assessments before determining post-assessment implementation goals.

South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Services (SC DHEC)

  • DHEC’s mission is to promote and protect the health of the public and the environment. Their goal as a partner in this E3 program is to help manufacturers reduce waste generation and increase efficient use of raw materials, energy, water and other resources. DHEC will promote E3 in South Carolina as well as provide pollution prevention assessments to manufacturers in the state.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA)

  • EPA’s goals are to reduce quantifiable environmental impacts, to motivate manufacturers to implement sustainable practices, and to successfully weave together the activities of three federal agencies. In addition, EPA will provide administrative support for the South Carolina E3 program and will provide Train the Trainer services on the Carbon Footprint tool and other tools that support the E3 projects.
