Ceramic Scintillators

Education and Training

The students involved in this project are being trained in a variety of aspects of experimental work related to ceramic scintillators, including the synthesis of nanoparticles used as precursor materials, thermal processing in controlled atmospheres, and characterization of scintillators. They are acquiring valuable hands-on experience on x-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, UV-visible transmission spectroscopy, photoluminescence, thermoluminescence, and scintillation measurements. The students are also involved in projecting, assembling, testing and calibrating the scintillation analyzer, as well as a specially designed sample holder for the UV-visible transmission spectroscopy measurements.
