Our lab focuses on creating tools that
aid clinicians to assess and enhance their clinical skill in order to ultimately improve patient care.
We specialize in the development of medical simulators and associated technologies to improve clinical care by integrating state-of-the-art sensors, robotic technology, devices and computational tools. Realizing that progress towards such a goal is only possible through
multi-disciplinary engagement, I have been fortunate to learn from clinicians, human factors psychologists, electrical and industrial engineers and computer scientists during the course of my training.
Most of our research seeks to address two research questions:
• Can clinical skill be accurately assessed by integrating sensors, robotic technology and computational methods (e.g., robotic surgery, needle insertion)?
• Can sensor data from simulators enable improvement in clinical skill?
