Research Interests:
Dr. Fadel's research efforts target the design process from early conception to pre-production. His work in optimization, packaging, metamaterial and multi-material design, additive manufacturing and design theory is well known and extensively cited. His current research emphasis is on the design and manufacture of highly functional heterogeneous objects, and of metamaterials, that is materials whose intrinsic properties are geometrically tuned to be different from those of their constitutive parts. The technology has been applied to the design and fabrication of orthopaedic devices and tools.
