  Postdoctoral Fellow

Mohamed Attia

Mohamed Fathy Attia

Dr. Mohamed received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry (Honour), then received Master of Science in Chemistry in 2008 from Cairo University. There he was working on synthesis and characterization of new fused and isolated heterocyclic molecules based on pyridine and annelated pyridine derivatives and their biological evaluation. In 2013, he started his PhD work in Laboratory of Design and Application of Bioactive Molecules (Biogalenic Pharmacy team) at Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Strasbourg with professor Thierry Vandamme (Advisor). Then he pursued his research and focused on developing novel nontoxic and blood pool contrast agents based on polymeric and lipid nanoparticulate systems where efficiently employed in X-ray micro-computed tomography, MRI and fluorescence imaging. During his thesis he manipulated different protocols to fabricate lipid, polymer and inorganic nanocarriers for targeted delivery of contrast agents and/or therapeutics via both active and passive targeting technologies. Grafting the NPs’ surfaces by ligand models and their quantification to improve binding affinity to specific receptors as well as tuning the physico-chemical parameters. Globally he concentrated on designing dual and multimodal imaging agents in one singlet nanoplatform where encapsulated drugs altogether aiming at diagnosis and treatment or both (theranostics). Currently he joined Dr. Frank Alexis’s lab (Nanomedicine lab) where he focuses on engineering novel micro- and nanomaterials and their surface functionalization for targeted biomedical and environmental applications.
