NCDEQ Webinar: ESI Environmental Benchmarking Series – Smithfield Foods

North Carolina DEQ’s Environmental Stewardship Initiative (ESI) team will host a virtual Environmental Benchmarking Series (EBS) event with ESI Steward Smithfield Packaged Meats Corporation – Wilson to learn about their water reduction efforts. The facility was recognized by the National Association of Manufacturers as a recipient of the 2020 Manufacturing Leadership Award in the sustainability category for their impressive water reduction efforts. The Wilson facility cut its water use in half over two years through adjustments to equipment, modifications to daily procedures, and the implementation of a wastewater re-use program. Join us to hear how these and other continuous improvement measures helped the Wilson facility surpass the company-wide 10 percent water reduction goal two years ahead of schedule and achieved annual savings of more than $225,000.
