Openings

The MuthComp group led by Prof. Zhen Li in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Clemson University is currently recruiting graduate students. Openings are available for graduate students who seek for Master and PhD degrees.

Our research includes the following topics:
(a) Mathematical theory of multiscale modeling, coarse-graining and model reduction.
(b) Multiscale physics and dynamics of complex fluids, soft matter and smart materials.
(c) Multiphase dynamics and phase transition at interfaces and in porous media.
(d) Physics-informed data-driven modeling and multi-fidelity approaches.

Please read our recent papers (publications) to see whether you are really interested in our research topics. The prospective students are encouraged to contact Prof. Li (zli7@clemson.edu) directly for potential research opportunities that fit your background.

Prof. Li will be available to answer only a few emails. In your inquiry email, please indicate your interested research areas and briefly describe how much you know about those areas. For graduate applicants, the email subject should be “Graduate Application” + “Year” + “your full name” (e.g., “Graduate Application 2024 David Smith”). You are suggested to provide a link to (or PDF files of) the following documents: (1) your full CV and academic transcripts, (2) representative publications (if available)

Due to the interdisciplinary nature of our research, we welcome exceptional students from diverse education and research backgrounds in numerical methods, and a degree in Applied Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science or a relevant engineering discipline. Engineering (e.g., mechanical engineering, fluid mechanics, engineering mechanics) and Science (e.g., applied or computational mathematics, physics) students with strong quantitative skills and programming skills are highly encouraged to apply. Prior research experience could be a plus but generally not required for graduate applicants.
