Welcome to the Cates Lab

When properly manipulated, electromagnetic radiation can serve as an efficient, powerful, and selective tool for pollution control. At the Cates Lab, we pursue new water treatment technologies that utilize light and radiation to provide sustainable and effective alternatives to conventional chemical and biological processes. In addition to environmental engineering, the disciplines of materials chemistry, solid state physics, and nanoscience play a role in our research.
