The SC-TRIMH Phase 2 is comprised of four scientific projects each lead by Research Project Leader (RPL), three high-tech scientific research cores directed by outstanding investigators with proven track records in their area of expertise, and an administrative core. While the scientific theme of SC-TRIMH is musculoskeletal translational research, the modal theme is multiple source mentoring. To mentor targeted junior investigators, SC- TRIMH (1) pairs targeted junior investigators with established NlH-funded researchers and clinicians who have exceptional mentoring track records as well as relevant expertise; (2) develops structured activities for skills acquisition and enhancement, specifically for translational research and technology transfer; (3) provides essential core resources with sufficient scientific expertise and technical support to optimize their use; and (4) implements a regular schedule (i.e. checkpoints) of progress reports and evaluation with critical assistance from an Advisory Committee of nationally recognized scientists. These activities have thus far resulted in a highly developed translational research center in Phase 1 with a critical mass of biomedical excellence in musculoskeletal health.
