August, 2010. Three new Ph.D. students, Amol Singh, Alina Wilson, and Yihao Zhu joins NESL from Summer and Fall 2010. Amol comes with a M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, while Alina is one of our own, coming with a B.S. in Mathematics. Yihao joins us with a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from UC Irvine. They will be working on graphene and InN NW based sensors. Welcome aboard, Amol, Alina, and Yihao!
August, 2010. NESL group had a very productive summer and hosted several students and a high school teacher. One USC undergraduate student Dean Kersey started working in NESL from June with REU support from NSF. A high school student Nick Montalbano, from GSSM, and an overseas student Po-Hsuan Wei visitng from NTU also spent two months each in NESL. One high school Chemistry teacher from Irmo High School, Steve Orr, also spent the summer in NESL with help of RET support from NSF. All of them did very good work, with Dean continuing with NESL through Fall.

May, 2010. The Nanoscale Electronics and Sensors Laboratory in the Department of Electrical Engineering has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral research associate. Interested candidates should send their full CVs and a list of 3 references to Dr. Goutam Koley by e-mail at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. This is initially a two year position, with renewal after first year contingent upon satisfactory progress. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities: The candidate will be responsible for fabrication of Nanoelectronic and Micro/Nanoelectromechanical devices using photolithographic and/or e-beam lithographic techniques, their structural/electrical/mechanical characterization, and applications in chemical/biological/radiological sensing. Other responsibilities include assistance in grant proposal writing and general lab/student supervision.

Requirements: An earned doctoral degree (preferably from an accredited US University), and a strong background in semiconductor materials and devices is required. Candidates must have experience in clean room and lithographic fabrication and/or in nanoscale semiconducting material synthesis. Structural characterization experiences with SEM, AFM, TEM, etc., and background in MEMS or sensor devices will be a plus.
