Dr. Yongren Wu is an Associate Professor of Bioengineering at Clemson University, with an adjunct appointment in the Department of Orthopaedics and Physical Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). He earned his Ph.D. in Bioengineering from Clemson in 2013 and then joined Dr. Vincent D. Pellegrini, Jr.’s lab at MUSC as a postdoctoral scholar. He became an instructor in the Department of Orthopaedics and Physical Medicine at MUSC in 2015, joined the Clemson faculty as an assistant professor in 2019, and was promoted to associate professor in 2025. His lab uses a combination of theoretical modeling, in vitro tissue and cell studies, and in vivo animal models to achieve a multi-scale, systems-level understanding of the mechano-adaptation mechanisms in soft tissue and bone interfaces. His research aims to improve the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of various musculoskeletal diseases. Dr. Wu’s lab has received funding from multiple agencies, including NIH (NIGMS), NIH SBIR, SC INBRE, the Cervical Spine Research Society (CSRS), and the Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation (MTF). Additionally, Dr. Wu serves as a director at the Charleston campus of the Clemson Biomedical Engineering Master of Engineering Program, which emphasizes clinical translation and innovation in biomedical engineering design.
