Dr. Lee received her BS, MS, and Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry/Pharmaceutical Sciences from College of Pharmacy, Pusan National University, Korea. During her doctoral degree, she worked on design and synthesis of prodrugs to improve therapeutic efficiency by modifying drug structure, targeting, or controlled release. From 1999 to 2003, she worked as a postdoctoral research associate at Center for Controlled Chemical Delivery at the University of Utah, studying non-viral vectors to deliver therapeutic genes to specific organs/tissues for the treatment of genetic diseases. From 2003 to 2006, she worked as a post-doctoral research associate at Bioengineering Department, Clemson University, expanding her research experience in biomaterials and regenerative medicine working on projects to develop novel biomaterials for directed tissue growth, wound healing, and drug/gene delivery. From 2007 to 2012, she worked as a research assistant professor at Bioengineering Department, Clemson University and established her research program to develop and apply novel biomaterial-based drug/gene delivery systems for site-specific delivery of bioactive molecules designed to promote functional tissue regeneration and alleviate pathological conditions. In 2012, she became assistant professor and her current research focuses on the application of nanomaterials to drug and gene delivery, medical diagnostics, and regenerative medicine. In 2018, Dr. Lee was promoted to Associate Professor of Bioengineering.
