Opposed-Piston 2-Stroke Hybrid Commercial Vehicle System

Motivation

Commercial vehicle engines: major source of transportation emissions, resistant to powertrain changes.

New regulations (CARB Clean Truck initiative): need 90% reduction in NOX, CO2, PM by 2027.

OP engines: potential cost-effective solution.

Goal

Demonstrate OP two-stroke hybrid tech for heavy-duty vehicles.

Achieve 13-20% CO2 reduction vs. non-hybrid OP baseline.

Meet 2027 CARB Clean Truck standards for NOX, PM.

Approach

Focus on hybrid powertrain design and control.

Integrate OP engines with hybrid systems.

Collect data, develop models for engine and aftertreatment.

Design, optimize hybrid powertrain configurations, control strategies.

Perform CFD simulations for diesel, hydrogen.

Validate hybrid system, emissions reduction via testing.

Explore sustainable fuels, focus on hydrogen.
