Mac Devine was the C2M2 Distinguished Speaker July 23, 2019. Mac is the Vice President and CTO for Strategic Customer Success, the IBM Fellow, Master Inventor, IBM Cloud Division. He spoke on the “Perfect Storm.” The definition of a perfect storm in weather is a “rare combination of forces leading to an event of unusual magnitude”. That is what he sees happening across the IT landscape. Cloud Computing technology is allowing customers to tap into almost “infinite” capacity. BigData is transitioning away from “batch orientation” to real-time, streaming analytics. Embedded sensors are getting smaller, smarter and cheaper. These dynamics all coming together will allow customers to reach new magnitudes for scale, speed, and cost. In terms of when we will see this happening, he believes the future is now and we will see significant intensifying of this Perfect Storm.
