Seminar Abstract

What is the definition of leadership? What is leadership as we refer to it in today’s society? What characteristics define successful leaders and what are some crucial skills to possess so you are recognized as a leader? Dr. Michalaka gives her perspective on the aforementioned questions and also offers advice on how to achieve your professional dreams. This webinar was a part of our inaugural C²M² Future Leaders Program and a continuation of our Distinguished Speakers Series.

Dimitra Michalaka, Ph.D. Bio

Dr. Dimitra Michalaka is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The Citadel.  Dr. Michalaka received her undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), after which she entered into the transportation engineering graduate program at UF.  She graduated with a Master’s of Science in May 2009 and with a Ph.D. in August 2012.  Her research is primarily focused on traffic operations, congestion pricing, traffic simulation, and engineering education.  Dr. Michalaka has organized and participated in numerous research, workforce development, and outreach activities.

She has offered a webinar and hands-on workshops on transportation engineering operations and engineering education to transportation-focused professionals, teachers, professors, and others.  Dr. Michalaka is also a registered Professional Engineer in the state of South Carolina and a C²M² Associate Director.
