A miniature scale homopolar generator was built in our lab to demonstrate how the generator works. The way this type of generator makes electricity is very unique. A circuit is constructed in which a rotating disk magnet has electrodes attached to its rim and at its center. Logically, this should not result in a generator; however, homopolar generators are one of the best ways to produce extremely high electrical currents. There have even been attempts to create perpetual motion devices out of these generators!
You can find all of the parts and drawings of our homopolar generator below so that you can build your own too!
