The Role of Wind Engineers in Advancing Climate-Responsive and Risk-Informed Sustainable Development: Opportunities and Responsibilities.
Abstract linked here. The session will be chaired by Dr. David Prevatt.
Dr. Tracy Kijewski-Correa is the Leo E. and Patti Ruth Linbeck Collegiate Chair and Associate Professor, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering & Earth Sciences, and Associate Professor of Global Affairs. She is co-director of the Integration Lab (i-Lab) in the Keough School and co-founder of Engineering2Empower. She also is a fellow of the Kellogg Institute for International Studies and the Pulte Institute for Global Development, on the Faculty Board of the Real Estate Institute, and is an affiliated faculty member of the Environmental Change Initiative..
Her research is dedicated to enhancing the resilience and sustainability of communities in response to the challenges posed by increased urbanization and hazard vulnerability. Her transdisciplinary scholarship closes the gap between research and practice by conceiving holistic responses to identified infrastructure vulnerabilities and supporting science-informed decision making by diverse stakeholders. She has worked on a number of applied research projects focused on the impacts of wind hazards on the built environment, including over a decade spent on the in-situ investigation of tall buildings, including the world’s tallest building Burj Khalifa. She currently serves as the inaugural director of the Structural Extreme Event Reconnaissance (StEER) network, which organizes networks of engineers to assess damage after hazard events globally and then use this knowledge to drive recovery and future resilient construction policy and practices.
